The National Committee to Combat Climate Change has launched a campaign denouncing the presence of APA in the country and opposing seismic exploration in the San Pedro de Macorís basin, supporting local fishermen in their efforts to collect the promised compensation for ceasing their fishing activities. Since 2014, we have opposed coal-fired power generation in Punta Catalina with media and education campaigns, as well as scientific studies on pollution in Punta Catalina. We are also fighting against corruption by the Odebrecht Consortium in Punta Catalina and, recently, we have been advocating for the establishment of a Dialogue and Consultation Table for Punta Catalina and the province of Peravia.
We also support the country’s decarbonization campaign, which has led to the signing of an agreement to stop using coal to generate electricity and a promise to close the mixed plants by 2030 and Punta Catalina by 2041. We also propose the early retirement of Punta Catalina through the use of renewable energies, with financing from green bonds sold on the US carbon market.
