IDAMHO
At the Honduran Institute of Environmental Law (IDAMHO), we requested access to the information contained in the environmental license file and, after a long wait of two years, obtained access to part of the file. Recently, we have developed a communication strategy with the purpose of generating informed public opinion on the project, as the Miskito leaders are in favor of it. In addition, we held a Mesoamerican exchange of experiences of resistance to fossil fuel projects, with the participation of experts from the region where there has been exploration and/or exploitation, or opposition to this type of projects.
Environmental education and community organization are important to IDAMHO. In this regard, we have projects related to river pollution where we have trained young people in community sampling, with the purpose of organizing a citizen platform concerned with the health of rivers, called “Centinelas del Agua” (Water Watchers). We are also actively promoting the adhesion of the State of Honduras to the Escazú Agreement.
