Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia works its way towards a just energy transition while adapting to climate change.

Mitigation and Adaptation

There are currently no active plans for exploration of fossil fuels in Saint Lucia. Electricity source is mainly through diesel generators and a State owned solar farm. Currently, data indicates only 5% of energy needs are covered with renewables, but the National Determined Contributions aim for 35% by 2025 and 50% by 2030. Saint Lucia’s National Energy Policy 2023-2030 calls for the decarbonization of the transportation sector; and facilitates access to financing for renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. Waiver of VAT on solar PV systems and components is in place, and initiation of geothermal exploration and development is ongoing.
