Waterkeepers Bahamas

We advocate for swimmable, fishable, and drinkable waters in The Bahamas. Our work spans a range of activities, from restoring vital ecosystems to educating and engaging the community in environmental stewardship.

Currently we are pushing for a permanent ban on offshore oil drilling in Bahamian waters, and are demanding that the Government cancels all existing oil drilling licenses. We have created, and presented, a pathway document which has been presented to the government. We are doing extensive work on mangrove restoration following the passing of hurricane Dorian in 2019. The organization also works on beach profiling, water quality monitoring and youth environmental programs.
